The VH1 Save the Music Foundation was founded in 1997. The foundation aims to restore instrumental music programs in public schools and raising public awareness on the importance of music as a part of education. The foundation began as a public affairs initiative by the music channel, and has since 1997 provided over $48 million worth of musical instruments to over a thousand public schools across the United States.
Many athletes, musicians, and celebrities have acted as ambassadors for the cause. These include Lupe Fiasco, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gavin Rossdale, Vanessa Carlton, and Mathew Morrison. These celebrities have helped raise awareness and deliver messages about the importance of music ina child’s education.
It’s amazing that there are still people who do not recognize the importance of music in a child’s education. And why God why does it have to be the people in charge of making those budget cuts. Music programs are the first to go whenever there’s a budget cut. Maybe if those people realized that Einstein was a total dumbass before his mommy got him a violin and playing it enabled him to tap into his Einstein-ness. Maybe VH1 should go that route on their next campaign. 2.3 million Einsteins doesn’t sound like such a bad thing.
