New cook show alert: Having conquered our hearts and minds with his music over the years, rap legend Snoop Dogg wants to conquer our stomachs with his latest media venture. Joining efforts with daytime TV celebrity Martha Stewart, the Dogfather now brings to us a “half-baked evening of cocktails, cooking, conversations and fun where nothing is off limits”. The show, titled ‘Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party’, begins airing on VH1 on November 7. You can add this to your Snoop visual entertainment diet after his smoked-out Merry Jane series, accessible online.
Obama’s famous guests: On Tuesday night President Obama got to host his last ever state dinner and he had the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife for company. But the dignitaries from Italy were not the only familiar faces in attendance. Chance the Rapper and his father Ken Bennett, currently an advisor to the Chicago mayor, were also on the guest list. They showed up looking dapper in dark suits and for once there was a glimpse of Chancelot sans his trademark baseball cap. Also in attendance was reclusive R&B singer Frank Ocean, accompanied by his divinely arrayed mum, Kantonya Breaux. Were the First Lady not looking radiant herself in a gold Versace gown, Ms. Breaux just might have stolen the limelight.
More Pablo: Kanye West has decided that America needs more of his Saint Pablo Tour and has thus unveiled a second leg featuring 21 more shows starting in San Jose and winding up in Brooklyn. The announcement comes while the first leg of the tour is still on course; his last concert will be on October 29 in Las Vegas. He will then take a couple of weeks off before hoping back on stage November 17. The two shows he had to cancel because of the robbery his wife endured in Paris are also included in the new dates.
More bio: There’s yet another hip hop biopic for you to sink your teeth into if ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and the soon-coming ‘All Eyez On Me’ are not enough. Tha Dogg Pound; that legendary rap duo that made part of the Death Row legacy and was seen as Snoop Dogg’s sidekick, has an autobiographical film in the pipeline. Titled ‘DPG 4 Life’, the flick will feature a slew of Death Row’s infamous personalities including Suge Knight, Dr. Dre and Snoop besides giving us some unpublished down-low on Daz Dillinger and Kurupt. Check out a preview of DPG 4 Life below:
Azealia Banks vs. Russell Crowe; RZA responds: Earlier we wrote about how Azealia Banks reportedly caused a scene at a party in Beverly Hills hosted by Hollywood star Russell Crowe. The Harlem rapper had her own version of what transpired in which she was a hapless victim grabbed by the neck, insulted, spat on and thrown out. Not so, says RZA. In a lengthy Facebook post, the Wu-Tang legend went on to explain how Azealia became “loud and obnoxious”, embarrassing him, who had invited her to the party. He went on to describe how she became violent, forcing Russell to step in and eject her. RZA’s statement also explains how the ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’ rap-singer betrayed his confidence by announcing a deal with him even before it had been concluded on.
Bob Dylan vs. Swedish Academy: A few days ago the Swedish Academy announced American cultural icon Bob Dylan as the winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature. The announcement provoked a huge argument over whether or not the accolade was deserved. But the artist himself remained loudly silent, refusing to comment on his win. Indeed he rebuffed fervent attempts by the Swedish Academy to contact him and a brief mention of the award on his website was taken down a few hours later. It remains to be seen whether Bob will attend the Nobel Prize award ceremony, which will be held on November 10 in Stockholm.
