Critics are still wiping their mouths after gushing and drooling over Isaiah Rashad’s debut LP ‘The Sun’s Tirade‘. And the 17-song opus was well worth every lick of props it received. Reviewers were unanimous that the project showcased artistic and personal growth from the ‘Clivia Demo‘ EP that first earned the Chattanooga rapper the world’s attention. There was more depth and honesty in the lyrics that gave the listener a deeper insight into the personal demons that have dogged the 25 year-old both before and after his big break. Listeners were also offered a more diverse musical experience than on his previous outing with Mike Will Made It joining the production team and Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, SZA and Syd da Kid offering hefty features.
On the day The Sun’s Tirade came out the Top Dawg MC also released the second video from the album. While the ‘Free Lunch’ visual showed Isaiah and people of all trades hustling for their “meal ticket”, the clip for ‘4r Da Squaw’ shows a relaxed Rashad taking a stroll along the beach with a hyper kid who some say is his actual son. Whether or not the boy is, the two have a blast together while enjoying the sublime weather and the attentions of other beachgoers. Everyone has a value floating above their heads and Isaiah’s is the lowest at $0.00. Whether it’s a reflection of material or spiritual wealth it’s up to you to decide but at the end of the day everyone, regardless of their value, is warmed by the same sun and inhales the same air.
