Ever since he dropped his first mixtape in 2012, the world has been checking for Joey Bada$$. And so far the New York rapper hasn’t disappointed; his debut album ‘B4.da.$$’, released on his birthday in January, peaked at number 5 on Billboard and had critics hailing his wordplay. The thunderous ‘Christ Conscious’ was one of the bangers on the LP that went straight to the brain. We don’t know about a new album for now but fans can catch Joey onstage in the course of his ‘World Domination Tour’ on which he’s accompanied by Mick Jenkins and Denzel Curry.
If you can’t get tix you can content yourself with this new Joey Bada$$ video for ‘Teach Me’, a song released earlier in the year. On this number he’s accompanied by up-and-coming Canadian songstress Kiesza who also released her debut album about a year ago. It’s a song about dancing and has the duo offering their listeners “let me teach you how to dance” over a frenzied drumbeat that your feet won’t let you sit to. As you watch Joey, Kiesza and the dancers do their thing, you have to say director Rik Cordero captured the energy beautifully.
Kiesza showed in her ‘Hideaway’ video that she has a move or two up her sleeve and she seizes the opportunity in this clip to solidify her reputation as a kickass dancer. The dancers in the video, however, steal the show with a slew of outrageous, gravity-defying manoeuvres. This video really should have come with a “do not try this at home” advisory.
