Reading the title of this post, you may very well think it’s about a new supervillain from the Marvel comics. But Vrelo is in fact a girls band from Serbia. Losely translated, Vrelo means ‘springhead’,and “Posle Mome” is sort of a girls night out.
This is my first post on Serbian traditional music, and I wanted to find something with a universal sound, with a little splash of other genres like Rock or Pop. One impotant thing to know about Serbian traditional music is that it is a very unique style of music.
It has a very special style of rhythm, an odd Meter rhythm like a 9/8 or 7/8. I’m uncertain as to exactly how many music fans worldwide are familiar with Serbian music, but Vrelo will be a good introduction. The band was formed in 1999 by Natasa Tomic.

Right up until 2003, theywent through different phases ,exploring Serbian folklore music, before updating their line-up, changing it every now and again. This has led to the band changing their sound ever-so-often, from simple rhythm section, and with an array of amazing vocalists who moved between archetypal patterns to the modern style of music like Rock, Reggae,Pop.
In 2007, “Posle Mome” won the band joint second place on the BBC’s ‘The Next Big Thing.’ Their most recent album was released in 2014, so wedoitfortheloveofmusic.com will definitely be bringing you more updates on this great band. Do share your thoughts in the comments section.
