Music lovers around the world know Trey Songz as a lover, not a fighter. But the R&B heartthrob proved himself the latter yesterday night after he literally wrecked the stage at a Detroit gig. Trouble started when the ‘Can’t Help But Wait’ singer was told to wrap up his set at the fourth annual Big Show held at the Joe Louis Arena. Having been slotted in alongside Chris Brown, Lil Yatchy and other celebrities, that wasn’t exactly an outrageous request.
Being in his zone, or for whatever other reason, Trigga decided that his show must go on, daring the organizer to cut off his mic. Well, they called his bluff and pulled the plug on Tremaine, a gesture he didn’t really appreciate. The Petersburg, Virginia native expressed his displeasure by attacking the equipment on the stage, beginning with the drum screen and the monitors. A police officer who tried to subdue the entertainer got a concussion for his trouble after getting clocked in the head.
Trey was eventually whisked off to a detention center and later charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of assaulting a police officer, causing injury. Though he was given a $25,000 bond by the magistrate, the entertainer will be expected back in court on January 5 for a probable cause conference. He will remain in the detention center until then. It is therefore doubtful that Trigga will show up for a similar event at Chicago where he was scheduled to perform later today. I could think of a million better ways to start the year.
Here’s a snippet of events as they unfolded at The Joe.
