There’s finally a silver lining to all the drama swirling around the Aaliyah biopic. Not only are we more or less sure it will finally be completed, it will be completed ahead of schedule. The trailer for the film has been released unofficially and word is that ‘Aaliyah: R&B Princess’ will be out November 15th, not next year. Wendy Williams, who took over the project a little while back, seems to know how to move stuff.
Alexandra Shipp is convincing
Alexandra Shipp plays baby girl and from the few seconds of footage that we’re allowed, she appears to kill the role. You will remember the controversy generated when Zendaya Coleman, initially selected to play the fallen diva, declined the role citing several reasons. One of them was that the Haughton family were not down with the project. And indeed they weren’t and still haven’t given any indications to the contrary, which may discredit the final product in the eyes of some.
What to expect in the movie
What can we expect when the flick finally premiers? Of course there’ll be her growth from girl to woman and the rise to musical stardom. The controversial relationship with R. Kelly will be portrayed, as will be her ties with former Jay-Z right hand man Dame Dash.
