It was two years ago when Samaria introduced herself to music lovers with the sweet, piano-driven composition ‘Love Better’. Besides her strong vocal performance, the then 17 year-old captured R&B lovers with her honest lyrics and air of vulnerability. This same magic she replicated on her debut EP, ‘The Story of Right Now‘ which she initially released as a nine-track song set on Soundcloud. Produced by DTB, the project was as emotionally engaging as it was instrumentally inventive, alerting the world that it had another hot musical prodigy on its hands. It even came with a short film like Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’. If you’d like to gauge Samaria’s artistic growth from her beginnings listen to her mixtape and then check out her latest single ‘Love Me Crazy’.
While she keeps it 100 in terms of describing how she’s feeling and what she’s going through, Samaria is evidently more confident in her ability in the new song. So much so she can go toe to toe with her more accomplished fellow Oakland native Kehlani, who contributes Love Me Crazy’s second verse. DTB does his part in creating a dark atmosphere for the negative emotions exuded by the two chanteuses to thrive in; the bass is slow and brooding and echoing vocals produce a haunting effect. It’s like you’re listening to a bad dream. Look out for what’s sure to be a banging debut album from the Tsunami Mob singer soon.
