You really can’t do just one Rock and Roll Legends piece on Michael Jackson. He was larger than life. One of the longstanding rumors surrounding MJ is that he put in a bid to buy the remains of The Elephant Man.
So Is It True?
MJ has always generated controversy: His personal relationships, changing physical appearance, and his too-weird-even-for-a-celebrity behavior. His weirdness also added to his controversy. He made some really weird shopping choices is what we are saying. But when asked by Oprah Winfrey about the rumor, Jackson answered “why would I want some bones?”
The Elephant Man refers to Joseph Carey Merrick. Born on August 5, 1862, the English man had severe deformities and was exhibited in circus shows. There has been a play as well as a David Lynch film adaptation of his life. Jackson said he watched the David Lynch film over 30 times and never once without crying. Joseph Carey Merrick died aged 27 on April 11, 1890.
