Many people hate their jobs. For some, it’s because they work at the post office, and for others, it’s because they feel stuck in a job they absolutely loathe instead of doing what they truly love, music. If you just hate your job at the post office we can’t help you much. But if you hate your job at the post office and would rather be playing music full-time, then WDFLM’s got your back.To start off, with no label and a big advance in place there are a lot of things to consider before you go punching your boss in the twins.
There are still bills to be paid, and talent and good intentions won’t take care of them. It’s even worse if you have a family and you are the one winning the bread for said family. That means quitting will not only affect you, but the people who depend on you as well. Are you ready to give up a new pair of shoes for the sake of your music career? Have you tried making money as a musician, just to see how it goes? What we are asking here is do you have earning potential as a musician?
Where You Live Matters
Do you work at the L.A. post office or are you in Hinsdale County, Colorado? Because if you live in the latter you are so boned! Seeing as there are no gas stations in Hinsdale County, chances are there aren’t a lot of paying gigs there either. Even if you could get all of the 843 citizens to attend your mini concert at $10 a head, it’s still $8430, hardly enough to pay for the weed and mansion. Not every time lends itself to supporting a full-time musician. You might have to consider moving to a place that’s more working-musician friendly.
You are Going to be Your Own Boss
Being your own boss sounds awesome until it actually happens. Just because ‘Bill Lumbergh’ is now out of your life doesn’t mean its all plain sailing from now on. Being a full-time musician is exactly that, a full-time job. It’s actually full-time multiplied by infinity. You have to do everything yourself, booking gigs, playing at those gigs, promotions, recording, all of that falls on you. If you spend hours watching ‘Dr. Phil’ instead of working on your music career, trust us, it’s gonna come back to bite you in the ass. Be prepared to put in double time.
Do You Have a Little Nest Egg?
We know you work at the post office, but you’d be nuts to quit if you don’t have savings. It might take a while to make money through your music. Plan carefully, or you will end up in an even worse position that you were while you worked at the post office. Yelp! Those are words we never thought would come out of our mouths. You’ll know you’ve hit rock bottom when you start wishing for the days ‘Bill Lumbergh’ was screaming in your ear. If you’ve got all this covered then you are good to go. It’s time to punch that little sh!t ‘Lumbergh’ in the face! May The Force Be With You!
