When Prynce Hamilton reached out to us a while back with his jam ‘No Time’, we instantly connected with the 90s/early 2000s vibe of the track. And Hamilton’s style, we felt, was something hip hop had been missing for a minute. But we weren’t sure how our readers would respond when we posted the link to the single in our Hate it or Love it section. We needn’t have worried; y’all came out in force to show the southern Cali rapper love. That’s in addition to the props the song had already garnered on SoundCloud from across the globe.
Namesake and inspiration
As regards influences, one of the artists the Maybach Music Group affiliate looks up to most is Charles Hamilton. Anyone acquainted with the creativity and depth of the of the Harlem MC will need no explanation why Prynce idolizes him. Like many other fans he can’t wait for Charles Hamilton’s long overdue debut album. Speaking of 2015 albums, Prynce can’t get enough of ‘The Album About Nothing’ but having confessed to also being a Kanye West fan, ‘So Help Me God’ is probably also on his must-buy list. But if you ask me, Prynce’s own EP, ‘Libra Season’ is equally worth a listen. You can check out some of its tracks, including that slamming collab with MMG’s Scotty boy here.
Finding his lane
He may not yet have achieved the heights he wants but getting to where he is in the game hasn’t been a breeze. Far from it. Prynce readily admits that it’s a struggle finding your own niche in an industry where thousands of talented artists are fighting to get in at the door. “Just finding my lane but being marketable at the same time marketability is key in this industry and it’s hard to be original nowadays.” As it is, Prynce distinguishes himself not only with his wicked flow, but his approach to writing. “I like to make that music for when you are alone reflecting on your real life so you know you aren’t the only person going through it.”
So what does Prynce do on his day off? You can catch Prynce unwinding at Hollywood Hookah or Star Hookah. It’s one of the reasons he’s staying put in The Golden State for the foreseeable future. That, the women and, of course, the weather.
