Lingo Scott, that’s a real catchy name. Is it what’s on your I.D. or is it just a stage name?
I’m known as Lingo Scott on stage. Friends call me Lingo; associates address me as Mr Scott.
When did you start singing? Is there anyone who inspired you to take an interest in music (musicians and others)?
I can recall singing along at an early age to reggae and lover’s rock songs my mother would play at home and one day I asked her to buy me a Fisher Price tape recorder. When I got this I developed a fascination with my own voice and here we are today.
When did you decide that music was going to be your career?
I knew as a child attending drama classes at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts that I wanted to be on stage.
Performing at school talent shows singing the hooks while my friends rapped, I developed a passion for singing.
Fast forward to 2009 I put together a 9 track project called ‘999’ with a small team of collaborators for a limited iTunes release on 09-09-09 it was at this point that I decided to go forth and conquer the music game.
I enjoy travelling, fine dining. I appreciate art, independent cinema and fashion of course.
You’re currently working on an album with Ovaground Records, is it your first full project? When will it be in stores?
As wedoitfortheloveofmusic.com is the first site getting the exclusive scoop, I can reveal to you that I have a 5 song EP in the works which should be available for free download Spring 2015. We have some special surprises to come as well.
Ovaground is based in Geneva, what made you, based in London, choose to work with these guys?
Ovaground reached out to me online with some hot beats. I was immediately inspired to write to these tracks and record with my engineer CinningBao in North London. We sent the vox files back to Ovaground and thus began the process of our musical creation. I have since flown to Geneva and France on numerous occasions to work with the team and now we have some great music to share with the world.
What achievements do you have as a musician so far in terms of shows you have performed at and notable musicians you have worked with?
I’ve performed lots of shows in London at venues including London O2, Proud Galleries, Shoreditch House, The W Hotel and I collaborated with So Solid Crew’s Ashley Walters and Harvey on a promotional track for Adidas ‘Beatnik Adidas Kicks’. I have a feature with French rapper Bilel coming soon and I recently completed a big collaboration with a major artist that I can’t speak on just yet.
What challenges have you faced so far in the pursuit of your musical ambitions?
Realizing that success doesn’t come overnight for me and having to work 110 percent harder than any other artist just to get the recognition I deserve. This seemed daunting at first but I soon learnt that there is no other option for me but to go hard and stay focused everyday.
How has your music been received so far? Where can we catch you doing a live show?
Awesome! The response gets better with each track I release. You can get updated with my shows and releases via my social networks.
Your style encompasses hip hop, R&B, a touch of reggae and electronica. Which musicians inspire you?
I listen to a wide range of music new and old from Hip-hop to soul to Rock to Jazz to classical and more from all over the world. I am inspired by musicians like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Prince, Pharrell Williams, H-Town, Dennis Brown, Kanye West and Pink Floyd to name a few.
Is there a mainstream artist you would like to work with in future? Who?
It would be a dream come true for me to work with Stevie Wonder, he is the living embodiment of soul music.
I think a collab with Bjork would be amazing too.
What are Lingo Scott’s future plans or dreams as an artist?
I intend to make an impact with new forms of creative expression. Be it through music, film or product design. Watch this space.
