Whenever I hear Oddisee spit it’s like a new part of my brain opens up. This Washington MC’s got a sleek intellectual style that he throws over soulful tracks which he himself creates. I copped his instrumental album ‘The Beauty In All‘ a while back and that was all I could play on my iPod for weeks. Then I dug into his archives and downloaded ‘People Hear What They See‘ and discovered Oddisee is just as cold on the other side of the mixer. He’s lost none of his clever punchlines and matter-of-fact delivery in his latest recording ‘Invisible Walls’. And the warm synth is still audible beneath the drums, embellished with live-sounding snares.
All those claiming hip hop is dead will realize they’ve simply been looking in the wrong places when they get a load of this DIY artist’s latest track.
