What we have here is yet another throwback moment with a hint of the contemporary. That’s the best way I can describe the new single by rising NYC songstress MAAD. When you listen to ’90’s Love’ you will experience a wave of nostalgia, especially if you were a fan of the likes of Jade and Shanice. There’s the passionate, yet honey-sweet vocals and slow-brewed instrumental with catchy drums that made R&B from that era so addictive. But there’s also plenty to remind you which year the song was made, including the use of expletives in the lyrics (I dare you to find a love jam from the 90s with a curse in it). The f-word has been muted out in this song but you won’t miss it. There’s still plenty to love about the song if you’re allergic to cursing. It has a nice breezy feel and would be perfect for setting the mood on a night drive or on a relaxed evening with friends at home.
There’s also plenty to admire in the artist herself. MAAD (MAAD Moiselle in full) is not just a singer-songwriter, she’s a DJ, and a fashion model. She’s modelled high-end products for global makeup giants L’Oreal and Anastasia Beverly Hills and graced the pages of popular publications like Essence. Which is not to say she’s just ok as an artist. High-profile DJ gigs she’s and stunning previous singles such as ‘Black Ice‘ and ‘Sweet & Low‘ say so. If you’ve listened to these singles you will want to know when MAAD’s debut EP ‘Lé Funk’ is dropping. We do too.
