Don’t you love it when you come across an artist with a vision that is bigger than themselves? An artist who sees beyond fame and fortune to the impact they can have in the lives of their audience? We have such a musician for you today in the shape of Liz Loughrey. Based in Toronto, Liz has dedicated herself to challenging the youth of Canada to rise up, fulfill their potential and make a difference in their communities. She is doing this through the #RiseUpMovement she has started which has seen her hold a series of workshops across the country in different schools. Using these platforms she calls on young girls and boys to think outside the box and strive to be agents of change. Besides her motivational skills Liz is using her powerful, soulful vocals to spark change on a global scale.
She has created a song as beautiful as it is inspirational. ‘Rise Up’ exhorts the listener to “live before you die”- live without a life without limitations or regrets, a selfless life through which love shines bright. Peep the hook: “We gonna feel like we never felt before/ Take less maybe give a little more/We gonna feel like we never felt before/ Do you know what you’re fighting for?/ When you gonna rise up?/ Everybody stand up.” You can think of the song as the wake-up call you’ve been waiting for to go and live life to the fullest.
Even through the reggae vibes that permeate Rise Up, you can decipher the classic R&B/soul influences in Loughrey’s voice, perhaps more so in the acoustic version of the tune. The timeless sounds of Etta James and Sade have helped Liz find her musical identity. There is a Miami connection in her new song; it was written and recorded in the Magic City with Adrian X (The Weeknd, Drake, Kylie Minogue) and Supa Dups (PARTYNEXTDOOR, Mary J. Blige).
Look out for more from this passionate songstress as she strives to take her message of hope to the world.
