What we have here is a contender for video of the year, at least most creative video of the year. Before he embarked on his performance at a show in Paris, Lido shot a music video for his new single ‘Dye’ using his setup as a studio set. Now that he did it, it seems like that’s how all music videos should be shot but I doubt we’ve seen one done this way before. At this point you might be wondering who the hell this Lido is that we’re raving about; forgive our manners. Born and raised in Norway, Lido is quite simply one of the hottest producer-DJ-artists out there, and it’s not an overstatement. You would call a beatmaker who has laid down tracks for some of today’s most popular singers and rappers a great producer, and that’s what the 24 year-old has done. ‘Angels’, off Chance the Rapper’s wildly successful ‘Coloring Book’ was produced by him, as was a good chunk of Halsey’s chart-topping debut album ‘Badlands’.
More importantly, Lido has distinguished himself with his eclectic brand of electronic music that incorporates elements of R&B and hip hop. A style that has won him worldwide acclaim and seen him produce a slew of well-received albums and EPs. The latest of these projects was ‘Everything‘, which he debuted at Coachella this summer. Among the 11 songs on the record was ‘Dye’, a playful, high-octane tune in which he sings about how he “would die if you would dye your hair”. It is a mix of choral vocal enhancements, tribal drums, mellow keys and piercing bass that you would have to be a robot not to dance, or at least nod to. From the video it appears that Lido himself was responsible for every last ingredient in this addictive tune.
