We recently tried to make a case for busking and now we have another real life example to back our story up. Kristyna Myles started out as a busker on the streets of Manchester before she found her ticket to a career in music as the winner of the BBC Radio Five Live’s Busk Idol competition. The win opened many doors for Myles, enabling her to perform all over Europe while supporting the likes of Lemar and legendary guitarist Nile Rogers. It even lead to her first deal with a major label. But after three years of frustration, Kristyna decided to take her chances as an independent artist.
Without the deep pockets of a backing label, Kristyna turned to crowdfunding site PledgeMusic and she successfully managed to raise the cash she needed to craft her debut album. ‘Paint A Brighter Day‘, produced by Mercury Award nominee Andy Ross, is an inspirational collection of songs coming from one who has had to overcome her share of challenges to get where she is. The first single off this album is ‘I’m Getting Rid of This’ which started out as venting about a relationship that didn’t work out as planned but evolved into an anthem for anyone with emotional baggage they need to leave behind.
The song is delivered with vocal finesse of a singer who really has worked with the best and betrays Kristyna’s jazz and gospel influences. And the video itself is a highly enjoyable watch, using light hearted visuals to convey a deep message of healing. As you can tell, I’m sold but how about you, cherished reader? Hate it or Love it.
