It seems Keren Ann Zeidel was always destined to be a globetrotting servant of music. She was born 42 years ago to a Russian-Israeli father and Dutch mother and spent the early part of her childhood in Israel before the family relocated to Paris. But that was only the beginning of global peregrinations that would take her frequently to New York, Iceland and other parts of the world. As a traveling musician and adventurer Keren made deliberate connections with the people and places she encountered along the way. These experiences molded her into the skilled storyteller she is today; one able to share her life in a language anyone in any corner of the planet can relate with; be the song in French or English.
Recently Keren marked a formidable personal achievement with the release of her seventh solo studio album ‘You’re Gonna Get Love‘ on March 25 on Polydor Records. Five years have passed since she last delivered a solo project but a lot has happened in that time; in 2012 Keren became a mother for the first time. And you can hear the undertones of her motherhood in the 11 songs that make up this project. Including ‘Easy Money’ which contains a warning to the listener about “easy money, fast cars” and “hard drugs”. The beat is as psychedelic as the hook is catchy and as you nod your head to the drum you will wonder how you don’t yet count yourself among Keren’s fans. I’m wondering the same.
