The day when hip hop heads and music lovers the world over have been waiting on has finally arrived; Kanye West has spilled the date of his long-awaited seventh album. February 11 is the magic date when the ‘Swish’ some had given up on as another Detox will hit store shelves. The news came courtesy of a typically brief Ye tweet: “Swish February 11 16”. Other than this verbose post we have little to go on; no album art, no tracklist, no official singles. You get the feeling he wanted to pull a stunt like Drake did with ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ before he changed his mind last-minute. There have been random singles aplenty though. Many fans, including yours truly would love to hear ‘All Day’ on the new album.

But to whet our appetites even further Kanye unleashed one and a third tracks a couple of hours ago onto the Internet. The first is a melancholic number accompanied by lonesome keys and muted drums. It is a lonely cry for real comrades in a world full of fake friends and family members who want to get fat off his sweat. Hip hop heads will recognize the vocal contribution of Ty Dolla $ign on the track. The second is a preview of a soul-infused jam christened ‘No More Parties’ on which Kendrick Lamar spits a couple of lines before it fizzles out. Lending his skills on the production end of the minute-long snippet is Cali beatsmith Madlib. Kanye himself made the heavily sampled intro to the song.
It will be interesting to hear how the song pans out on the complete album. And how many more heavyweight features Swish has in store. Fortunately there are only five weeks to go before we find out.
