I’m not really sure if a clear answer to this question exists. When you first picked up your instrument of choice it was probably the first question you asked yourself. You’re not the first person to ask it and I bet you won’t be the last; it could be the most discussed topic in the music world.
All the people who are involved in creating the music, and musicians ( singer, instrument player), producer, arranger, mangers, all of them who are in one studio and want to start with recording, all of them one things they need, and it is the SONG. This song need to bring one person , and this is COMPOSER.
This is also one of the things I also learn when I been to educate myself in music school, and one of the class was and the main roll of creating the song. I really wish to share honestly this article with all of you, and the truth is that music schools did not help me to start with composing.
So how do you create a song? How do you get started composing?
Lot of stories and articles about this of course already exist, and you can get proper composing instructions from most music schools. I believe, by the way, that you can learn a lot about this skill in music school. Here you will find professional help to make huge strides towards your future career. But in my opinion as a composer, one of the most key factors in writing a great song is FREEDOM. If you don’t have this, it will be very hard for you to be brave enough to present your music to the world.
Many experts have spoken about the importance of talent, and I do agree that talent does contribute to writing a good song. But I don’t believe this is the deciding factor between an average and an outstanding composition. Talented as you may be you will still need to put in a lot of work. If you’re less talented than other musicians, the key is not to give up. You just need to work twice as hard as your more naturally gifted counterparts. With the right amount of effort you may even find your music to be better than theirs.
FYI, most professional musicians started like I did; I started to play one style of music, but then created one of my first songs in another style of music. Yes, these things do happen. But whenever I take the shackles from my pen, and stop caring what people around me will say, I produce my best work. This is why I stopped making blues and rock songs rock genre and focused my efforts where I was getting the best feeling; in the traditional world style of music. This is how I really started enjoying my music.
To see what I mean, check out one of my first songs, included here in this post. It is called ‘Slavenske Duse’. Feel free to respond in kind and share with us your first song!
