There’s a new soul-pop band causing ripples on Canada’s music scene now set to take their vibrant, sexy sound to a global audience. Gold Complex just released their debut, self-titled, EP last year but they’ve already built a cult following. Singles such as ‘Tread On Me’ and ‘Backbone’ received plenty of love on radio and the eight-piece band has been invited to perform in some of Toronto’s biggest venues, including the Mod Club and Lee’s Palace. If you dig acid jazz, stuff like Incognito, Jamiroquai or Elements of Life create, you will readily find a place in your heart for Gold Complex. If you’re tired of over-produced bubblegum pop or the ubiquitous trap beats, you will find refuge in the rich instrumentation and passionate, un-autotuned vocals of this talented collective. Every one of the songs on the Gold Complex EP feels well thought out and meticulously executed, but still laden with raw emotion. Ingredients that made the two lead singles perfectly suited accompaniments for Netflix series ‘Open Heart’.
To give their fans something to chew on as they wait for Gold Complex’s debut full-length ‘New Soul’, due for release April 2017, the band has issued a deluxe edition of their EP. In addition to the five sumptuous tracks on the original album, it treats listeners to a deep house remix of Tread On Me. And it comes wrapped in a cool new hand painted cover. Feel free to stream it in its entirety below and you can go ahead and download it if you want.
There is also a music video out for Backbone. The black and white clip gives us a fly-on-the-wall view of what life is like as a Gold Complexian. You are made privy to a recording session as well as life on the road, making you wish they were stopping at your city next. Check it out below and remember to keep tabs on that upcoming album.
