Shawn Colvin was born January 10, 1956 in Vermillion, South Dakota. You weren’t even born when Colvin learned to play guitar at age 10. She released her debut album, ‘Steady On,’ in 1989. The album won her a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Her Second album, ‘Fat City,’ was released in 1992 and also got a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Recording.
Shawn Colvin was already an award-winning artist when her radio-friendly hit ‘Sunny Came Home’ catapulted her into the mainstream. The song was instrumental in the success of her album ‘A Few Small Repairs’ which achieved platinum status. ‘Sunny Came Home’ also garnered Colvin two Grammys for Record of the Year as well as Song of the Year in 1998.

Since the success of ‘A Few Small Repairs,’ Colvin continued to release albums and even got another Grammy nomination in 2009 for her live album ‘Shawn Colvin Live.’ She released her eighth studio album, ‘All Fall Down,’ in 2012, working with Bob Dylan’s son Jakob as well as Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris. Her memoirs, ‘Diamond in the Rough,’ were published that same year and detailed her battles with anorexia, clinical depression, and alcoholism. In 2014, Colvin performed at the Grammy Festival at Sea: Women Who Rock cruise.
