J Kwon, real name Jerrell C. Jones, was born on May 2, 1984 in Atlanta, Georgia. An early start to being a bad boy, Jones was kicked out of school for dealing drugs. He was 12 years old. He hit the big time with his 2004 double platinum single ‘Tipsy.’ The song was a staple at every party and even Kanye West admitted that it was one of his favorite songs. ‘Tipsy’ went up to Number 2 in the U.S. and He followed it up with the equally successful ‘Hood Hop’ the title track from his debut album. Running out of album titles, J Kwon released ‘Hood Hop 2’ in 2009 exclusively for digital download and ‘Hood Hop 2.5’ on CD that same year.
And Then He Just Disappeared
In early 2010, J Kwon just up and disappeared. Not just from the rap game. We mean the you-would-think-he-was-abducted-by-aliens type of disappeared. His record label, Gracie Productions, even started a Twitter account under the name WhereIsJKwon in an effort to find him. He turned up after a month, and just in time for the release of his studio album ‘J-Kwon,’ saying he was just taking some time out. The album turned out to be his last before he disappeared from the rap game for real now, only making an appearance at So So Def’s 20th Anniversary Concert. I seriously doubt we’ll be hearing more from J Kwon.
