Given the unspeakable horrors cancer inflicts on its victims and the fact that it has no known cure, it’s always welcome news when we hear of someone overcoming the disease. Seasoned actor Dustin Hoffman is the latest celebrity to win the battle against this insatiable monster. According to People magazine, the multiple Oscar Award winner underwent surgery to get rid of cancer while still in its early stages. To maintain the good health he now enjoys, Hoffman will have to continue preventative treatment.
He is considerably luckier than Patrick Swayze who has had to undergo extensive chemotherapy and a number of other treatments since he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer five years ago. Even less fortunate was Farrah Fawcett who succumbed to cancer in 2009 after being diagnosed as having the disease three years earlier. She is remembered as having battled bravely but eventually losing out after having initially being given a clean bill of health.
Mr. Hoffman can now continue with his current projects which include small-screen parts and directing roles. We wish the Kramer Vs. Kramer star a full recovery and a speedy return to full health. There’s no doubt that the 75 year-old silver screen genius has plenty more left in the tank for movie buffs.
