If you think you could have done better with your life this past year, spare a thought for former Ruff Ryder DMX. The legendary New York rapper claims he is completely broke, and has debts of well over $2 million. He has filed for bankruptcy in a bid to keep his house in New York, the only asset he says he currently owns.
He claims to have no cars and says he doesn’t own any furniture or electronics, even jewelry or clothes. The bulk of X’s debts are child and family support arising from the 15 children he has sired with different women. His child support dues total to over half a million dollars and he is required to pay $1.4 million in family support. In addition to this he owes Compass Bank $950,000.
Hoping to stave off foreclosure on his abode, the Dark Man filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy early in December. He says he has no money in the bank or at hand that can help calm his creditors down. Neither does he own any of the copyrights or trademarks for any of his platinum-selling records, so he says. The situation was a little better three years ago when he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. At least then the debt was below $2m and he had a little less than $50,000 in assets.
However, that previous attempt was unsuccessful and his plea was thrown out, the judge saying DMX was not honest enough about his income and assets. The 46 year-old rap god will be hoping for a better day out in court this time.
