Anyone with half an ear that has listened to ‘and the Anonymous Nobody…’ will agree that it was one of the best projects of 2016, not just in rap but overall. They will agree that each of the 17 tracks was carefully thought out and meticulously executed. De La Soul had already left an indelible mark on hip hop even before they decided to crowdfund their way to their latest and, arguably, most accomplished record. The Anonymous Nobody brought together some of the greatest names in contemporary music, from Damon Albarn to 2 Chainz. Another one of the featured artists was British soulstress Estelle, making an appearance on the slow-brewed letter of regret that’s ‘Memory Of…(US)’. That track also showcased the talents of the legendary Pete Rock.
The video for the song is out now and in it all the artists on the song form the cast of a mini-drama. Pete Rock has the role of a narrator, welcoming viewers to a new ‘Nobody Theater’ series titled ‘Memory Of…(US)’. We are then introduced to Estelle, sitting in front of the mirror on her wedding day, reflecting on past affairs that didn’t work out. Even as she prepares to walk down the aisle, her mind is engaged in a drive down memory lane, chauffeured by Maseo. Along the way Posdnuos and Dave, the past loves, are picked up and dropped off.
