Ever since he turned ‘F**ck You!’ into a global anthem, CeeLo Green seems to have slowly erased himself from the public conscience. His name only resurfaced about a year ago in connection with the unsavory topic of rape. Comments attributed to his Twitter account made many people very mad and the Atlanta crooner was forced to eat humble pie and apologize. CeeLo has understandably kept a low profile since then but has at the same time being hard at work in the studio. His new album ‘Heart Blanche’ is expected in a couple of months and he dropped a teaser back in July in the form of the single ‘Robin Williams’.
Now there’s yet another single out from the new project. Like Robin Williams, ‘Sign Of The Times’ has an old-school soul feel and a socially conscious message. However, Sign Of The Times has decidedly less of a pop aura than the previous single and reaches further back to the roots of soul. Melancholic xylophone notes float above a drumline garnished with crisp snares, underlining the gravity of CeeLo’s lament on the “human condition”. Despite the sad undertones, the song is buoyed by a lovely melody that opens the doors for folks of all ages to enjoy.
