21 year-old London songstress Brooklyn first caught the attention of music lovers and YouTubers with the video for her remix of ‘Buffalo Stance‘, that Neneh Cherry classic every girl was singing back in ’89. Though ‘Hold Up’ introduced a bit of trap into that yesteryear hit, the message remained more or less intact; it’s not your money I’m interested in, dummy. Released in April, the song’s clip has since racked up hundreds of thousands of views. In it the petite chanteuse proved that she’s not only bad with the vocals, but she has a move or two on her.
Brooklyn’s prowess is not limited to the studio; a couple of festivalgoers have had the joy of listening to her live. If you were in the UK capital in July you could have also caught her on her Summer Tour. But not to worry, there’s plenty more to come from this burgeoning talent. The second glimpse of what’s in store comes in the form of her new single ‘Cupid’. Spoiler alert: it’s not the kind of mushy ballad 112 sang back in ’97. It is a hip-hop laced diatribe aimed at a dude who sweet talked a girl into becoming his girlfriend and then proceeded to let her down after she agreed to be his girl. There is a dark vibe to this R&B/pop tune, accentuated by the distorted bass that hovers above it.
