“I was gonna hit that wedding too, but then I got high.” Before you go Googling up the lyrics to Afroman’s hit, this line ain’t there. It was a real excuse given by a close friend of the groom in question. Real because Curren$y was ‘totally baked’ as Wiz Khalifa was exchanging vows with Amber Rose. It’s not your usual ‘had to work extra hours’ or ‘had a family emergency’, but it’s a valid excuse nonetheless. Who knows what stunts the rapper would have pulled in his highness.
For Wiz Khalifa and Amber it was the culmination of their steadily-growing relationship which saw them get engaged in March 2012, welcome their first child together in February the following year and announce their marriage a few months later. And come the wedding day on the 18th of August, one would have expected Curren$y, said to be tight with Wiz, to at least make a technical appearance. He probably planned to but he ended up somewhere with some friends, fogging up the place with his favorite plant.
“But he knows it’s love and…it’s all good,” Curren$y assured anyone who thought Wiz would develop an everlasting grudge against his friend for failing to show up on the most important day of his life. For any other groom the absence of a best friend on your d-day would almost constitute a capital offence. One which would take several rounds at the bar or something equally valuable to wipe from the memory. But in this case, Wiz probably did forgive Curren$y without a second thought…he had a fat joint in his hand right before he said “I do”.
