Bad Reed is a Canadian Alt Rock band formed in 2015. The band consists of Austin Sharpe on bass, Costa Chatzis on percussion, Graham Walker on guitar, and Sydney Sollazo adds a feminine touch with vocals and keyboard. The band released their self-titled debut EP in June 2015. Took a while for the EP to make its way to the states but their three-song EP gives the fans an idea of what they can expect from this Canadian outfit.
Bad Reed is not the kind of band that makes music for the money and fame although I’m certain that would be a welcome bonus for any serious artist, they make music because they are passionate about it. The songs on the EP aren’t what you would call mainstream, but what Bad Reed lacks in chart-topping tracks they make up for in their adventurous take on music. The band has a multitude of diverse influences such as The Mars Volta and Eperanza Spalding.
The Mars Volta influence is very apparent on ‘Punch It,’ the first track on the EP. ‘Slackjaw Romance’ is a ballad that showcases the vocal talents of Sydney Sollazo, while ‘Cassava’ is the standout track with hints of Reggae and Rock. wedoitfortheloveofmusic.com will be keeping a close eye on Bad Reed future projects. Might still be too early to tell but it looks like we can expect more adventurous sounds from this outfit.
