We may not have the full details of what exactly broke the final straw of Tom DeLonge and his musical offspring Blink-182, but it’s clear from this open letter DeLonge posted on his Facebook account in January and subsequent statements from the other members of the punk group that there won’t be a repeat of the 2008 reunion. A particular sticking point was a new EP. While DeLong claimed it’s release was delayed by internal squabbles, Mark Hopper and Travis Barker claimed DeLong was stalling it because of his other side projects.
Well, the former Blink-182 guitarist and vocal lead does have a solo project in the works. Entitled ‘To The Stars’, it is scheduled for release in spring 2015. And Tom’s now released ‘New World’, a delicious teaser of things to come, along with this intense video that is mostly of him wandering along dark streets with a taped-up guitar slung over his shoulder. Perhaps a portrayal of the Blink-182 rapture and new beginnings as his own man? Whatever the case the song still has all those hallmarks of his former crew’s compositions. That raw, defiant energy is quite intact, only without Hopper’s vocal contributions. I’m sure Blink fans will love it, even with gritted teeth.
