In 2015 the fans and lovers of real death/progressive metal were elated after Opeth released their latest album ‘Deliverance & Damnation’.
This Swedish metal outfit is for sure one of the most respected bands around the world in this genre. And with such a great musician as Mikael Åkerfeldt, guitarist, vocalist, producer and one of the group’s founder members among their ranks, success was imminent. Deliverance & Damnation is actually a double album filled with songs the members of the band say were created in 2002 and 2003. They only put them together at the end of 2015 to come up with a brand new Opeth LP.
One of the reasons they were published separately in the past is that record companies did not give the band members a chance to release all the tracks in one album. ‘Deliverance’ was described as one of the strongest and heaviest albums in Opeth’s career while ‘Damnation’ was a much more progressive rock album.
So I can say that this is going to be a very interesting musical journey listening to these tracks from Opeth all in one record. I recommend these guys only because they’re amazing musicians, and there are many things I and other budding prog-rock artists can learn from them.
Today, along with this news of their latest album, I wish to share an interesting story from Opeth’s YouTube channel showing how they started creating of this remarkable milestone in their career.
