Few artists have had the luxury of calling Prince a personal mentor and Lianne La Havas falls into this elite class. The man who almost single-handedly defined a musical era even played in her living room last year, and she in turn made a significant contribution to Prince’s ‘Art Official Age’ album. La Havas, half-Greek, half-Jamaican, was born and raised in London (if you needed proof of how cosmopolitan the UK capital is, there you have it). She only really started turning heads in 2012 after she released her acclaimed, award-winning debut album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?‘
On July 31 the gifted soulstress will release her second album on Warner Bros. The highly anticipated ‘Blood‘, which was inspired by a reconnection with her Jamaican roots, features touches by an array of accomplished producers. One of these is multiple Grammy Award winner Paul Epworth, the man behind Adele’s highly successful ’21’. The collaboration between La Havas and Epworth is the first single off Blood and couldn’t have been a more seductive advertisment for the album. ‘Unstoppable’ has a smooth, jazzy feel peppered with subtle touches of funk. La Havas’ low alto bounces in time with the steady drums and rises in tandem with the soaring strings to put you on a flight to cloud nine.
The sultry clip makes for delicious icing on this flawless offering.
