South African Hip Hop artist L-Tido, real name Thato Lloyd Madonsela, was born on January 30, 1982. He is one of few independent artists in the country to achieve commercial success. In 2009, L-Tido released his first mix-tape, the critically-acclaimed ‘City of Gold.’ The mix-tape led to the artist winning a Channel O Award for Most Gifted Newcomer. He released his debut album ‘All Or Nothing’ in 2011 which featured the hit single ‘We Rolling.’ ‘All of Me’ followed in 2013, and debuted at number two on iTunes SA.
L-Tido has had a steady rise to Hip Hop fame, and ‘Dlala Ka Yona’ is the track that cemented the talented artist’s status as a local Hip Hop to be reckoned with. The hit single was released in July 2015 and is produced by local hit-maker Tweezy. Tweezy has produced more than a couple hit singles for local Hip Hop artists and his producing chops are more apparent in ‘Dlala Ka Yona,’ which loosely translated means ‘play with it.’ Hip Hop videos are known for their extreme sexiness, and the video for L-Tido’s ‘Dlala Ka Yona’ is by far the steamiest to come out from a South African artist.
It was deemed too steamy for SA television audiences, with the national broadcaster requesting the artist to tone it down before it can be played on local screens. That little stunt made fans even more eager to see the video and it hit 100, 000 views in its first week. L-Tido kicked off 2016 with the release of a track titled ‘Oh No,’ which appears on L-Tido’s upcoming album, set for release sometime in April, 2016.
