Today we’ll take a trip back to the future, back to when everyone was having ‘Good Times’ and singing about ‘Le Freak’. That was the late seventies when Chic, the outfit put together by legendary guitarist Nile Rogers, ruled the airwaves and discos. In 2013 signs of a revival began to appear on the horizon as the group played their classics for revellers at the iTunes Festival and audience members of The X Factor UK. Last year the iconic funk group graced the Essence Festival and Bestival. Nile Rogers has already reacquainted himself with the summit of the Billboard charts, co-writing and performing a number of songs in Daft Punk’s multiple Grammy-winning ‘Random Access Memories’.
All these moves will culminate in the release of a new Chic album, the first since 1992. ‘It’s About Time’ will be the first project Rogers will undertake after inking a new deal with Warner Bros and it will be the band’s ninth studio album when it comes out in June 2015. ‘I’ll Be There’ is the first single off It’s About Time and I must say Chic are off to a flyer with this number. It has that grand, colorful disco sound that was the band’s hallmark, including the luscious Rogers guitar licks. You can’t sit still with that frisky bassline in your ears, no wonder supermodel Karlie Kloss is constantly frolicking about in the video. Long live the boogie!
