Here’s yet another dynamic duo from the Mello Music Group stable that slings that soulful hip hop for your mind. Repping for Detroit and Brooklyn respectively, Apollo Brown and Skyzoo have come up with a winning formula of hard-hitting signature Motor City beats brought to life by typically captivating NYC storytelling. The two artists finally decided to sit down and hammer out a full-length album after colliding from time to time at different venues on their individual tour schedules. What was birthed as a result was the critically lauded ‘The Easy Truth‘, released September 30. It was a collection of 15, hard-boiled uncompromising rap cuts that reflect their truth with no added sugar. And their truths resonated with music lovers around the world if the album’s position in the iTunes Top 10 Hip-Hop/Rap Chart Debut and in the Billboard 200 is anything to go by.
One of the tracks Apollo Brown & Skyzoo fans really appreciated was ‘Payout’, a song about aspirations to making it big and living it up like celebrities do. There’s a message about persevering during trying times knowing that better days are on the way somewhere in there. Helping Skyzoo spread his gospel is Maybach Music lyricist Stalley, and his bars prove to be just the note on which to close out this laid-back piece of gritty inspiration.
