The Big Apple has given us more than its fair share of femcees (think Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Azealia Banks) and Leaf is one of the latest among them to make a name for herself. Early in 2015 she dropped her debut EP ‘Magnetic B*tch‘, a three-track offering that established her as a fierce girl power advocate who pulled no punches. Doused in catchy trap beats and liberal profanity, this first of her Fool’s Gold releases confirmed that she was out to claim the throne as New York’s newest rap queen. But Leaf, who says she started taking her music only when she turned 14, is more than just a rapper. Even on that debut she showed off her vocal chops on the hook of ‘Slick’. More than an artist the Brooklyn native is also a producer and her knack for art extends into fashion as well.
Leaf is presently gearing up for her latest release, ‘King Leaf’ which doesn’t have a release date as yet but can be expected anytime soon. She began building hype for the record with the February release ‘Ride‘ and now has dropped another teaser in the form of ‘Money’. The new single finds Leaf singing about her favorite theme, this time encouraging her fellow women to go make that mullah. But the message extends beyond the four walls of femdom; she says the song is “a reminder to keep making your money regardless of the haters”. Again the teenager flexes her refined singing voice on the hook after spitting a few fiery lines. Seems she was serious when she said in an interview last year that her artistic future lies in R&B.
