If you’ve been feeling blue of late or been under the weather, Open Mike Eagle has just the mood to help you get your groove back. His new song radiates the energy of a breaking dawn, a bear emerging from long, cold hibernation. Open Mike explains it best: “It’s a song about going outside for the first time in a while. It’s from the perspective of being able to be excited about little things after not having had the strength to be around people. It’s the feeling of emerging from solitude.” You can hear the regaining of strength in the sparkling keys shooting from UK producer Paul White’s brand new keyboard and the boisterous drums that give the track its rhythm. You can also hear it right from Open Mike’s opening verse: “I feel so fly today emerged from my very narrow hill toe hideaway…I found all of what my confidence voices are”. And after the Chicago MC has emptied his soul Aesop Rock chimes in like: “Yeah, I feel so uppity…”
‘I Went Outside Today’ is a teaser for an upcoming collaborative project between Open Mike Eagle and Paul White titled ‘Hella Personal Film Festival’. It comes out March 25 on Mello Music and has already been adorned with glowing reviews. You can stake your claim on it, and download two other new songs in the process, here.
